Welcome
Welcome to the center of the Northern Plains, a rugged section of Badlands, buttes and fertile grasslands, where cattle and sheep graze and deer and antelope still roam. This is a region bordered by the North and South Dakota towns of Hettinger, Lemmon and Bison and where the Lakota and Dakota people held the last hunts of the majestic, wild buffalo that once roamed the grasslands in great herds.
On the surface the story of the buffalo in North America makes for great reading. They sustained Native American tribes on the Great Plains for generations, were nearly wiped out and made a remarkable recovery. Those who choose to dive deeper into the story can learn even more about the majestic beast that is so entwined with the hunters - both Native and others.
